Kristy Horstman grew up in Lincoln and has always lived here. She has had experience in traveling with various mission opportunities as well as family trips and says that traveling is one of her favorite things to do in life. But at the end of a trip, there is still no place quite like home OR Nebraska!
Kristy grew up at Second Baptist and remained with the ABC Churches into the beginning of her ministry. Her experience in ministry has been as a lay leader and a youth director/pastor for both the Disciples of Christ Church and American Baptist Churches. Kristy has also been privileged to do ministry on a statewide level for the Disciples of Christ and United Church of Christ through their shared office.
In Kristy’s spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Jeff, and sons Kamden and Kasten. The family enjoys baseball, both watching and playing, GO Yankees!
Kristy is passionate about helping people to know who Christ is and helping them learn about the love He has for us.
I grew up going to a country Church, Mt. Zion Methodist. I remember giving my life to Jesus at about age 11. This is also about the time I realized I wanted to glorify God with music. I had taken piano lessons since the age of 6 and was asked to help play for the small congregation. Upon reaching High School age, I was attending church in town and playing the organ. I was also very active in High School music, athletics, drama and church youth activities. I was granted a Vocal Scholarship to UNL School of Music and attended for 3 years. I finished my BA in Music Education at Kearney State the last semester before it became UNK. I then taught public school band and choir; Adjudicated many music contests; Served as Adjunct faculty to teaching community college Music Appreciation; Led community Choir events; Taught private voice and piano, and was also a church Choir Director and Organist.
I have had the privilege to be Music Director at Second Baptist since October of 1997. I have known many that are now with Jesus. My philosophy for music in the Church is simply, ”for the Glory of God”, I feel that everyone has a voice and we are best when we all sing together praising God.
